Envizi is a SaaS (Software as a Service) product, which alleviates the need for clients to install and run the application on their own computers or in their own data centres. Envizi handles hosting the application and storage of the data. This means clients can avoid the costs and hassle of hardware acquisition, provisioning, and maintenance, along with avoiding upgrade and support costs association with on-premise software solutions.
Implementing a SaaS enterprise solution is much simpler than an on-premise solution, but each client has custom requirements, so some complexities remain. Envizi has been implementing software for clients for over ten years and has a well-defined, efficient implementation process (see diagram 1 for the implementation steps). A typical implementation process runs for 12 weeks from start to finish, with all critical dates and milestones agreed upfront.
One of our newest client’s Icon Water recently completed the implementation process and agreed to an interview about their experience.
Kris Robinson is an energy professional working at Icon Water, a state water utility that owns and operates the water and sewerage assets and business in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Here’s what Kris had to say about his experience with the Envizi implementation process:
Q: How would you describe your experience with the Envizi implementation process?
A: It was a very good experience. The Envizi project team were in contact immediately after the commercials were signed. They provided a detailed project plan including key milestones, and quickly set up a kick off workshop. The team were responsive and approachable throughout the entire process.

A: I think there are always going to be hiccups for these types of projects as the type of energy management capability the Envizi product introduced is new for us, so we were learning about our detailed requirements as we went along. The most impressive thing for me was how Envizi dealt with changes in our requirements and small hiccups we encountered. The team were really accommodating and showed great willingness to work with us. I felt they went above and beyond.Q: Where there any hiccups in the process? How did Envizi deal with those situations?
Q: Is there anything you wish you’d known before you started? Any advice you’d give to someone about to embark on implementing Envizi?
A: Whilst the Implementation Team did explain it to me, I wasn’t prepared for the amount of time I would need to devote to the implementation. The steps in the quote were really clear, but the reality of what was required only really crystallised for us when we were part way through the project. So, to anyone considering implementing Envizi, I’d say you need to allow enough time, and invest some effort up-front to understand the product and how everything works together. Engage your end users, IT department, retailers, suppliers and broader stakeholders early in the process. It also really helps to include an energy management professional on your team that knows your business and data very well. The Envizi implementation team is also a great resource, so use their expertise!
