2019 will go down as the year the world announced a clear intent to move to a low-carbon economy. In 2020 governments, institutions and businesses will have to address how they manage this transition in order to ensure the long-term sustainability of their businesses.
Reporting frameworks that are used to measure and benchmark sustainability performance are no different. As community’s expectations change, so do the standards in which they are measured. This is particularly relevant to GRESB in 2020.
GRESB has announced changes to its reporting framework which will impact how you manage the reporting process and how your performance is measured.
Here is what you need to know, and how Envizi can help.
What gets measured, gets managed and GRESB is no different. GRESB 2020 is getting into the nitty-gritty of how you are managing your risks and opportunities and documenting building certifications, as a result your reporting process will need to adjust to support this.
Your GRESB performance rating is based on your response to specific indicators/questions. In prior years the reporting of how you are managing risks and opportunities (RO) related to energy, water and waste and building certificates (BC) were reported based on portfolio aggregation. In 2019 the response to risks and opportunities and building certificates required reporting on a percentage of a portfolio that was associated with specific activities. In 2020, you will be required to report specific risks and opportunities related to energy, water and waste and building certificates obtained at specific assets. If you are looking for more detail you can find it on the GRESB website here.
To maintain or better your previous GRESB rating you will need to have asset level information, and as a result better systems and processes to manage the collection and management of risks and opportunities that are managed at specific assets and what building certificates have been obtained.
Managing an assurance process for sustainability reporting is challenging at the best of times. Envizi is making several changes to help you streamline the assurance process by providing audible reporting processes that align to GRESB reporting in 2020.
