As the year winds down to a close, the entire Envizi team and I are delighted to extend our warmest season’s greetings and best wishes for the New Year.
2018 has held its share of challenges for our sector globally.
In Australia, many of our clients and strategic partners have felt the full year financial impact of sustained energy prices rises. Regrettably our politicians have done very little to instil confidence that there will be relief – with the predicted change in government unlikely to provide a silver bullet solution in 2019. In the US, whilst energy prices have not been troublesome on the whole, the Trump Administration continues to turn its back on the climate change agenda, whilst in the UK, Brexit has dominated headlines and created an atmosphere of uncertainty that has negatively impacted corporate decision making and investment in the area of sustainability.
From a global perspective, environmental pressures hit boiling point this year when the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a landmark report warning that we have only 12 years to limit climate change.
Despite these challenges and head-winds, we are excited to see many commercial and government organisations rising to the occasion – particularly with respect to their management of the built environment. Organisations are coalescing around technology and innovation as the key to lowering emissions, reducing operating expenditure and enabling more sustainable business practices. KPMG’s 2018 Global PropTech survey found that 97% of respondents feel that technology and innovation will have a significant impact on their business. Furthermore, commercial real estate firms are racing to achieve Net Zero Emissions of their own accord.
At Envizi, we are excited for what 2019 will bring as our clients look to embrace technology to optimize the performance of their buildings. Whilst the industry has long been awash with buzzwords like IoT, machine learning and AI, we are seeing real world applications of such technologies and are involved with projects that are delivering measurable value and strong returns in energy, maintenance and occupant comfort. Importantly, we’re demonstrating that the data required for smarter decision making already exists within your operations and facilities and can be transformed to quickly to deliver insights.
A big thank you to our clients and strategic partners for your ongoing support. We look forward to helping you create more sustainable businesses in the New Year. s.
